Electric scooters in Malmö are used less after stricter parking rules

In September 2022, stricter parking rules were introduced for rented e-scooters. Something that is pointed out in KTH’s report as the reason for a reduction in use.

According to a survey commissioned by the electric scooter company Voi, which has been used in KTH’s research, 60 percent of the respondents in Malmö ride electric scooters less often than before the new parking rules.

– Our view is that the parking ban led to changed travel patterns, says Boel Berg Wincent, doctoral student at the Center for Traffic Research.

– Before it was like you placed them on the street or everywhere, so I think it’s good, she says.
