Sunday, June 9, 2024 will in all likelihood be election day in Sweden for next year’s elections to the EU Parliament.

According to the news site Euractiv, at least Sweden, as the current chair country in the Council of Ministers, has already notified the Speaker of the EU Parliament by letter that the election period is set automatically “because no alternative date has received sufficient support”.

Thus, the election in the 27 member states will be held during the period 6-9 June next year. For Sweden and most of the countries, this means election day on Sunday, while for example the Netherlands votes on Thursday, Ireland on Friday and the Czech Republic and Latvia on Saturday.

A formal decision is expected to be taken by the EU countries’ ambassadors in Brussels on Wednesday.
