Elderly woman in Huskvarna exposed to fraud – cheated after fake postal notification

After the conversation with what the woman thought was the store in question, she was connected to a person who claims to work at the woman’s bank.

– There she is asked to collect her jewelry and other valuables and hand them over to a security company that will pick up the valuables from the woman’s home, says Magnus Jansson Klarin, who is a press spokesperson at the police.

After the man from the alleged security company retrieves the valuables, the woman checks her accounts, which are found to be empty.

The police have drawn up a report of fraud and interrogations will be held with the woman. Recently, there have been similar frauds against the elderly in Östergötland and Sörmland.

Information efforts for the elderly

At the beginning of the year, the police went out and warned of a wave of fraud against the elderly in Jönköping County, Östergötland County and Södermanland County. The police have also visited pensioners’ associations to inform.

Last week, two men were sentenced in the Jönköping district court to several years in prison for serious fraud against elderly people in southern Sweden. In total, there are about 30 crimes against people, mainly in their 90s.
