On Friday, a man in his 70s was charged on suspicion of gross unauthorized position with secret information. According to the indictment, the man must have spread information about 41 defense facilities in Sweden. – The secret information concerns facilities that are of great importance to the nation’s defence, says Chamber prosecutor Mats Ljungqvist. It was during a search of the man’s residence that the material was found, which, according to Mats Ljungqvist, includes such secret information that it poses a risk to Sweden’s security. – They are so secret that they must not be held by a person who does not have authorization, he says. Can you say something about which facilities were mapped? – I dare not do it for the reason that that part of the preliminary investigation is covered by defense secrecy. Created map structure The 71-year-old man is said to have created a chat that was used as a forum for “military over-interested people”, according to information to TV4 Nyheterna. He is also said to have created a map structure of the military installations and then urged others to fill in information about them. Several people have previously been sentenced for spreading secret information in the chat, including a man in his 40s from Örebro. Serious crimes According to Mats Ljungqvist, these are serious crimes. Currently, three prosecutors at the National Security Unit are working on a further number of preliminary investigations against various people where charges can be expected shortly. – We are starting to approach ten prosecutions now and there will be more. These are people who have basically had contact with each other in different ways, he says.
