Elderly Chatham man facing impaired charge after crashing into police

An 85-year-old Chatham man is facing an impaired driving charge in connection to striking a Chatham-Kent police cruiser and injuring a police officer.

An 85-year-old Chatham man is facing an impaired driving charge in connection to striking a Chatham-Kent police cruiser and injuring a police officer.

Police responded to a report Sunday afternoon of a possible impaired driver on Longwoods Road between Kent Bridge Road and Huffs Side Road.

As officers attempted to stop the vehicle, as the car was veering into oncoming traffic, the man struck a cruiser, police said

Through investigation, police believed the man was driving while under the influence of alcohol and he was arrested.

The man and one officer were transported to hospital for medical attention, police said. Both were treated and released.

The accused was charged with having a blood-alcohol concentration exceeding the legal limit. He was released with a Feb. 15 short date.

Wallaceburg man charged with assault

A 28-year-old Wallaceburg man is facing charges after Chatham-Kent police responded to a domestic disturbance in a parking lot in Wallaceburg Sunday morning.

Police said the man allegedly assaulted a woman during an argument.

The accused was located in the afternoon and arrested and charged with assault, police said.

He was released with a March 9 short date.

drug possession

Chatham-Kent police caught up to a 26-year-old Chatham man on Sunday who was wanted on an outstanding warrant.

While being searched during the arrest, police said the man was found with suspected methamphetamine resulting in a drug possession charge.

He was released with a Feb. 23 short date.

Stolen ATV

Chatham-Kent police are investigating the theft of a 2016 red Suzuki King Quad 400 ATV.

Police said the vehicle, with license plate 2FY57, was stolen from a shed on Merlin Road sometime between 2:30 pm Saturday and 10 am Sunday.
