Elden Ring features a new DLC enemy, but players are much more interested in one tiny detail in the teaser

Before Elden Ring’s DLC is released, FromSoftware is keeping its fans engaged with small teasers. A new one has now appeared and it has many fans wondering.

What does the teaser show? On May 13, 2024, Elden Ring’s X account released a new teaser regarding its upcoming DLC. The DLC is a picture of a new enemy and a sentence that fits the lore. The sentence translates as “The forsaken and tragic who search beneath the umbra pray for the embrace of a new master.”

As for the new enemy, he looks like an older creature that moves around the DLC’s gloomy swamps with a cane. Its head glows yellow-orange and looks like a large ball covered in a web. Many fans believe this is a new version of the “Winter Lanterns” from Bloodborne – a grotesque creature that could infect hunters with madness back in the day.

Although the image already reveals a lot about the new DLC, it is primarily the teaser sentence that makes many fans ponder. They think this one could mean more.

Theory revolves around Godwyn the Golden

What are fans wondering about? The teaser sentence mentions an umbra, and although some fans believe it is the shadow of the Earth Tree, some on Reddit believe there is more to it.

Reddit user Naqamel says that in English the “umbra” stands for the shadow of a solar eclipse and points in the direction of “Sol Castle” on the mountain peak of the giants. In this castle people worshiped the solar eclipse and its power.

According to theories, a solar eclipse could have brought back the murdered Godwyn the Golden or at least redeemed him completely, but Radahn, the Star Scourge, kept all the stars at bay with his gravitational force and thus prevented this plan.

It is also interesting that this plan was also pursued by Miquella, the key character from the upcoming DLC. So after you defeat the commander Niall in Sol Castle and get to the highest tower, you can find out from a ghostly figure what plan the residents had.

The spirit has this to say: “Lord Miquella, forgive me. The sun hasn’t been swallowed yet. Our prayers were not enough. Your comrade remains soulless… Now I will never see him, your divine Haligbaum…”

But since Radahn has to be destroyed for the start of the DLC, Godwyn could play an important role in the story. His death allows the stars to move again and a solar eclipse could occur. If the theory is correct, Godwyn could return as a shadow or even a full figure in the form of a boss to destroy you.

What do you think of the theory? Do you think “umbra” is just the shadow of the earth tree or do you think it has something to do with the solar eclipse? If you want to find out more about the DLC “Shadow of the Erdtree”, we have the right overview for you.
