Find Rot Knights

Where is the boss? The Rot Knight is somewhat hidden. He is waiting for you behind the Place of Mercy “Depths of the Rift”. To get there, you first have to go to the south of the map. Via the Cerulean Shore you reach the tip of the peninsula to a hole in the ground, the Rift.

You can’t proceed there until Miquela’s seal is broken. You’ll know the seal is broken when you hear a loud noise and get a flash. This can happen when you enter the Shadow Keep, Bonny Village, or the Ruins of Rauh for the first time.

Only then can you go down the rift. Follow the level and finally reach the Rot Knight’s arena.

With our map you know which path you have to take to get the Rot Knight.

Defeat Rot Knight

The Rot Knight looks terrifying at first. He looks like a strange skeleton sitting on an equally pitiful horse. But don’t let the first look fool you. His attacks are powerful. It is recommended that you collect as many Scadu Tree fragments as possible in the game world beforehand. You can find a separate guide on this on MeinMMO.

You can also summon the NPC Thiollier for the fight and get some help that way. Your spirit ashes are also available.

Weaknesses of the Rot Knight

What are the boss’s weaknesses? Since the Rot Knight is an undead enemy, he is vulnerable to holy damage. So it’s best to bring a weapon with the corresponding damage type. Alternatively, talents for your weapon such as “Holy Blade” or invocations that cause holy damage will do the trick.

You can also inflict posture damage on the boss and give him a critical hit when the invisible bar is full. This is particularly easy to do with an effective strength build – here you can find a recommendation from MeinMMO.

The boss is immune to frost, by the way, because it attacks with it. Sufficient protection in the form of armor is therefore recommended. For example, “Radahn’s Lion Armor” or the “Horn Talisman of Immunity” provide sufficient robustness.

Attacks and tactics

How does the boss attack? Right at the beginning, the Rot Knight rides towards you. He will fight with the following attacks:

  • The knight jumps off his horse and attacks you. Avoid the attack by rolling left or right in time.
  • If he gets close to you, the knight swings his weapon downwards in your direction twice, which can also be countered with two well-timed dodge rolls.
  • In the meantime, the horse may attack on its own. Keep your eyes open for where it is and avoid its attacks if necessary.
  • If the knight is in medium proximity, he will spin towards you. Roll left, right, or through the attack.
  • If the guy is sitting on his horse, he can attack you from there. Avoid him accordingly.
  • The boss can also throw his weapon at you, and it will return to him. The best thing to do here is to put as much distance as possible between yourself and the curved blade by rolling backwards or running.
  • The horse may howl and throw you back – when you see the attack starting, roll backwards.
  • Last but not least, the knight has what is probably his strongest attack: he flies into the air and hurls blue flames (frost) across the ground at you. Good timing is required here: either you roll out of the damage zone or jump over the flames at the right moment.
  • Further tips: The boss is aggressive, and you should be too. Stay close and dodge the attacks, trying to do a lot of damage quickly. If you are not so skilled with the dodge roll, a good shield can help to block at least some of the attacks. In this case, however, your stamina should be high, otherwise you will be overwhelmed all too quickly.

This is how you should win the fight. You will receive 220,000 runes and the Echo of Decay as a reward. You can then enter the Deep Purple Garden and continue Thiollier’s quest. Are you looking for more guides for Elden Ring and the DLC? You can find an overview on MeinMMO.
