Eirik Larsen will lead the Sami Council’s human rights work

For the past five years, Eirk Larsen has been a political advisor to the Sami Parliament Council in Norway.

– He has extensive experience from work with indigenous peoples’ human rights – both at national and international level and in various roles. We are very happy to be able to benefit from his solid knowledge, says Áile Jávo, Secretary General of the Sami Council.

Substitute on the job

Previously, he has worked with Sami issues at ministry level in Norway. He knows the Sámi Council well, because in 2017 he acted as a substitute in the position he now takes up.

– I look forward to taking part in the Sami Council’s work, and am happy about the opportunity to work for a Sami organization and with issues that I have great commitment to, says Eirk Larsen in the press release.

Important to protect

– Human rights are under pressure and the Sámi civil society has a very important role in protecting and promoting the human rights of both the Sámi and other indigenous peoples, he continues.

Eirik Larsen takes up the position on 7 August 2023.
