The seven-week strike among factory workers at the American aircraft manufacturer Boeing is over. The employees can return to work as early as Wednesday.
After a vote early on Tuesday morning, Swedish time, the union approved the employer’s new offer. 59 percent of those affiliated with the union International association of machinists and aerospace workers (IAM) who work at Boeing voted yes.
This means that the approximately 33,000 striking members can now return to their jobs at the aircraft manufacturer.
The offer from the employer was the fourth in the negotiations, and the third voted on by the union’s members. This means, among other things, a salary increase of 38 percent over four years. However, the union did not get through its demands to restore a previous pension plan that was scrapped ten years ago.
According to the IAM, members can return to work as early as Wednesday, or by November 12 at the latest.
