    Between the prospect of reaching the 7th heaven and that of joining the arms of Morpheus, the women have decided. According to a recent study, 85% of them would prefer a good night’s sleep to an orgasm.

    Not tonight, darling, I prefer to sleep“… Many women would prefer to benefit from a good night’s sleep rather than an orgasm.

    Is sleep better than sex?

    For this study, 1,800 people were recruited and questioned by the American women’s monthly Good Housekeeping. And according to the results of the survey, 85% of women would prefer to benefit from a good night’s sleep rather than an orgasm. For men, this figure is much lower, at 52%.

    According to the researchers, several reasons can explain such figures.

    • 79% of participants admitted to meeting “difficulties” to sleep and revealed that they slept one to two hours less per night than they would like;
    • Only 15% of women and 23% of men sleep at least 8 hours per night;
    • 72% of individuals surveyed have already spent money on sleeping pills;
    • And 4 out of 5 people interviewed say they are ready to buy mattresses and/or pillows to sleep better.

    Faced with this glaring lack of sleep, women prefer to put aside their sex life to scrounge up a few hours/minutes on the pillow.

    Orgasm and sleep… yet go hand in hand

    Regardless of this surprising alternative, sex and sleep (also) go well together. Orgasms release a cocktail of beneficial hormones, which induce a state of relaxation and contribute to improved sleep.

    An opinion shared by Dr Sébastien Doerper, head of the Sexual Health Service, recently interviewed by Doctissimo on this subject. For him, orgasm is the best sleeping pill that exists – for both women and men. And for good reason: after lovemaking, many molecules are delivered by the brain: dopamine, endorphins, serotonin, oxytocin… It’s a real shot of well-being and pleasure for the body.

    Result ? Thanks to this state of deep relaxation, we fall asleep faster, but we also benefit from a better quality night. Finally, sex and sleep remain closely linked because, conversely, a good night’s sleep will provide more desire to have sex.
