“EIDS system will be mandatory for rental real estate advertisements”

The Ministry of Commerce announced that the EIDS (Electronic Listing Verification System) system will be mandatory for rental real estate advertisements.

The official statement on this subject is as follows: happened: With the amendments to the Regulation made by our Ministry of Commerce on August 31, 2023, identity and authorization verification obligations have been introduced to the advertising platforms where real estate and vehicle advertisements are published, in order to prevent fake advertisements, advertisement pollution, speculative price increases and consumer grievances. In this direction, the Electronic Advertisement Verification System (EIDS) has been established by our Ministry of Commerce, and in the first stage of this system, the identity verification of people who want to post advertisements has started to be carried out as of November 1, 2023. People who do not verify their identity information cannot enter ads on advertising platforms. The authorization verification application, which is the second stage of EIDS, will be mandatory for rental real estate advertisements as of January 1, 2025.

In the coming period, authorization verification will be made mandatory for real estate advertisements and vehicle advertisements for sale. With the EIDS authorization verification application, advertisements can only be placed by the real estate/vehicle owner, the 1st and 2nd degree blood relatives or spouse of the real estate/vehicle owner, and real estate/gallery businesses with authorization certificates authorized by the real estate/vehicle owner through the EIDS authorization screen in the e-Government.

The regulation in question covers all advertisements placed electronically, including social media, and all real estate and vehicle advertisements in electronic media are meticulously monitored by our Ministry.

As a result of the investigations carried out in this context, it was determined that there were advertising activities contrary to the regulation in the Facebook and Instagram applications operating under Meta Platforms Istanbul Bilişim Hizmetleri Limited Şirketi, and administrative fines were imposed on the said platforms.

On the other hand, access to social media accounts where real estate and vehicle advertisements are shared is blocked, and in this context, 1,426 social media accounts have been blocked to date.

In the coming period, necessary sanctions will continue to be imposed on advertisements published in violation of the regulations introduced by EIDS. Additionally, authorization certificates will be cancelled. We have started our legal work regarding this.

Businesses engaged in real estate and vehicle trade should not share real estate and vehicle advertisements on their social media accounts, and it is important to act in accordance with this issue in order to prevent social media accounts from being blocked and other administrative sanctions.

In order to avoid victimization, our citizens should not pay attention to real estate and vehicle advertisements on social media. It is announced to the public with respect.”
