While the subject of abuse in Ehpad agitates French society, the Minister of Solidarity Jean-Christophe Combe announced at a press conference the upcoming launch of a digital platform to collect reports.
One year after the publication of the book Inquiry lthe Gravediggers, by Victor Castanet on abuse in nursing homes and while a new edition is available, the Minister of Solidarity Jean-Christophe Combe announced on Tuesday that he is taking the subject seriously and will soon launch a digital platform to collect reports more easily. An initiative currently in the test phase.
A platform to “free speech”
“The objective is to free speech, to make reports simpler and to ensure that they are taken into consideration”, developed the minister. This online portal is currently in the test phase, but all data from this online portal will be kept by the Regional Health Agencies (ARS), ready to launch inspections if necessary. Currently, it is already possible to report abuse by dialing 3977but this number is managed by local associations.
1,400 “at risk” Ehpad checked since last July
During this speech, the minister also announced the control of 1,400 nursing homes by state services. These are the “Ehpad most at risk, belonging to the Orpea group (the group targeted in particular by the book) or having been the subject of reports”, he specified.
A decision which gave rise to 1,794 recommendations, prescriptions, instructions and 11 referrals to the Public Prosecutor for criminal matters: cases of violence, mistreatment, endangerment of persons by this non-compliance with the regulations, qualification of staff…
General states of mistreatment on the program
To go even further and in particular “in response to the concerns of the French”, General States of mistreatment will be launched in February and until the summer of 2023. They will give the floor to all the representative bodies of the persons concerned, to professionals and to associative stakeholders.
Finally, at the beginning of March, a bill on “Ageing well” will be examined in committee then “inscribed in the wake of governmental time”. It will be “enriched” with the conclusions of the National Council for Refoundation on Aging Well, expected in April, said the minister.
