Defeated in the semi-final by Frenchman Yannick Borel – who lost in the final against Japanese Koki Kano –, Mohamed Elsayed won the small final in épée at the 2024 Olympics against Hungarian Tibor Andrasfi (8-7), Sunday July 28. This bronze medal is the third won by the African continent so far in these Games, after the silver of Tunisian sabre fencer Fares Ferjani and the bronze of South African rugby players. It is the second Olympic medal in the history of Egypt in fencing, twelve years after Alaaeldin Abouelkassem’s silver in foil at the London Olympics.
