Edvin Anger’s big setback – now misses the World Cup this weekend

Skiing star Edvin Anger will miss this weekend’s World Cup competitions in Lahti, which Södra Dalarnes newspaper was the first to report on.
The reason is a cold.
“It is an infection in the upper respiratory tract after returning from the USA,” says national team doctor Rickard Noberius in a statement.

Edwin Anger, who two weeks ago took the second podium of his career when he finished third in the sprint in Canmore, has been battling exertional asthma for some time. It has led to an infection.
“Edvin is alert and feeling better, but together with the trainer and the medical team have decided to withdraw from the competitions in Lahtis. He instead focuses on Drammen,” says the national team doctor Richard Noberius in a statement from the Swedish Skiing Association.

Enter is replaced by Anton Persson who thus make their season debut in the World Cup. Persson had knee surgery last winter.

Four competition weekends remain in the World Cup: Lahtis, Holmenkollen, Drammen and the finale in Falun.
“Lahtis is a classic ski area with many historic championships that have been decided out in the forests around the arena,” says the national team manager Anders Byström.

Lynn Svahn has good chances to win the sprint cup. Svahn leads with 187 points ahead of the Norwegian Kristine Stavå’s Ski City. Jonna Sundling is third, 55 points behind Skistad.

The competition weekend in Lahtis begins with a sprint relay on Friday.
