Edvin Anger is now celebrated to the skies – can become the first Swede in ten years to reach the mighty milestone: “Can be the best in the world”

Leksand extended the winning streak beat AIK

Edvin Anger’s breakthrough this winter has been huge.
Now he is looking forward to becoming the first Swede in ten years to reach a mighty milestone – and the accolades just keep pouring in.
– He can become the world’s best sprinter, says coach Johan Norrby Granath to Nya Ludvika Tidning.

Edvin Anger didn’t even get a place in the regular national team this winter. Instead of the a national team, it became the b national team called Team Bauhaus, but for next winter there is no doubt where Anger belongs.

Huge tributes

The young Swede has had an almost sensational breakthrough this winter. He has been praised by profiles such as Petter Northug, and during ten sprint starts this winter, he has reached the final five times. This weekend he was also one hundredth away from taking the first podium of his career, but he had to settle for fourth place then.

It is not only Petter Northug who is impressed. In the Swedish national team, you are sure that it is something very, very special that you come up with, and the words of praise for the season he is doing are enormous.

– He rides fantastically well. It is an establishment to be up there often and it also creates security, says sprint coach Johan Norrby Granath to Nya Ludvika Tidning.

Could be the first Swede in ten years

But the season is not over yet. Anger’s success has put him in a delicate position to do something no other Swede has managed to do in the last ten years. In 2013, Emil Jönsson Haag won the overall sprint cup, but since then no Swede has even finished on the podium. Before the last competition of the season, Anger is in third place.

If Anger goes to the final in the competition, it therefore speaks volumes that he will be the first Swede in ten years to take a podium place in the overall World Cup.

– I think it’s only a matter of time before he stands on that podium. He has all the qualities to, first of all, be able to become the world’s best sprinter and then perhaps a year of training at a distance is needed for him, but I think he needs both parts as well, says Johan Norrby Granath.
