In an article published in the scientific journal Psychology Today, Dr. Kat Scherer and Dr. Elizabeth Sylvester assert that the concept of educational clarity is the key to successful education. What exactly are we talking about?
Educational clarity, the key to happy parenting
We can no longer count the number of works on happy, fulfilled and caring parenthood. Two American psychologists have identified educational clarity as THE key to harmonious parenting. A return to basics that young parents sometimes lack: “When a child is not clear about what is expected of him or what the adult really thinks, his bad behavior is not really bad behavior. It’s simply a confusion,” explains the Dr. Kat Scherer. “Clarity is key when it comes to education. When it is achieved, the child understands what is expected of him. He has a good understanding of rules, his schedule, parental boundaries and limits.”, then explains psychologist Elizabeth Sylvester. “Children feel safer when things are clear. In a clear and coherent family system, they feel more confident and less anxious”adds the expert.
Raising children compared to a board game
When it comes to raising children, common sense is very often out of sight due to injunctions and “good advice” distilled by (your choice) the mother-in-law, grandma Germaine or even the neighbor mother of 5 children. .. To evoke the concept of educational clarity, the two American experts draw a parallel with board games. If all players know the rules, then the game should go smoothly. On the contrary, if one of the participants does not have the same notions as the others, the game risks being more difficult, for the player in question, but also for the rest of the participants. Be careful, however, not to fall into the rigidity of the rules: “Attention ! Clarity is not synonymous with rigidity. Let’s take the example of a multiplayer game, there is a good chance that it will run more smoothly when the rules are understood and applied by all participants. It’s the same for family lifeshe will be more harmonious and serene when clarity is maintained” recalls Dr Kat Scherer.
