Education Minister Lotta Edholm (L): It is extremely important that we get new legislation regarding independent schools

But the current government has many and strong personal connections to the independent school industry. This applies not least to Education Minister Lotta Edholm herself, who came directly from the boardroom of the listed school group Tellusgruppen to Rosenbad.

And Lotta Edholm’s party colleagues in the previous coalition government already promised an end to venture capital companies in the school industry, and the Social Democrats have promised an end to profit-seeking since 2014, without any of it becoming a reality.

Now the profit distribution is to be regulated in several ways. It is about dividend restrictions in case of quality problems, a freeze on dividends in the first years when starting or buying a school, and reclaiming school money if it is found to be used for other than school activities. Everything is included in the Tidö agreement, and Lotta Edholm now intends to investigate how it can be implemented, she says.

Hear her explain how, despite her own contacts in the industry, she intends to give profit distribution in the independent school sector.
