The 52-year-old Argentine will lead the national team until the end of the qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup.
Martin Lasarte was fired from the post in April after Chile failed to qualify for the World Cup for the second time in a row. However, Chile placed above Paraguay, then led by Berizzo.
Berizzo has been the assistant league captain for Chile between 2007 and 2011, and coached Celta de Vigo, Sevilla and Athletic Bilbao in Spain.
