Eduard Hallberg interrupted the alpine skiing world cup slalom in Italy’s Madonna di Campiglio. The second ski of the Finnish skier who reached the slope with starting number 35 slipped from the wrong side of the slope stick at the end of the slope.
Hallberg, 21, finished 24th at the opening of the slalom season in Levi in November and took a place in the top ten in Gurgli, Austria, a month and a half ago with his eighth place. Three consecutive World Cup races, including Madonna di Campiglio, have since ended in suspension.
The outing also ended Jesper Pohjolainen competitive. The Pohjolainen, who started with starting number 57, drifted out at the end of the steep section of the track. At the end of last year, Pohjolainen, 23, twice finished second in the European Cup. He is still aiming for the first points of his career in the World Cup.
The competition is led by a Norwegian Atle Lie McGrath. He was on the slope in his own caste, because the second one is Switzerland Loic Meillard is 0.62 seconds behind the leading Norwegian. Croatia is third Samuel Colleague 0.65 seconds slower than McGrath.
The second round starts at 21:45.
