After weeks of a saga full of twists and turns, the opposition Venezuelan finally has a unique candidate: Edmundo Gonzalez Urrutia. If the former ambassador had already been designatednot all parties on the opposition platform had yet been able to give it their support.

Because in Venezuela, on the screens of voting machines appear as many faces of the presidential candidate as there are parties supporting him. Edmundo Gonzalez will therefore appear three times. He addressed his fellow citizens on Wednesday April 24 via a video published on social networks. “ We are betting on a Venezuela that belongs to everyone and where no one fears being prosecuted for their ideas. A Venezuela with real justice “, he said.

This candidacy seems to be a hard blow for the government in place which was initially betting on a division of the opposition. But one candidate withdrew in favor of Gonzalez.

Obstacles could pile up by the end of July

If Edmoundo Gonzalez Urrutia is little known and not very charismatic, it seems that the ex-diplomat’s popularity is gradually increasing. However, the opponents had many obstacles in their way such as the impossibility, without explanation, of registering the candidate initially chosen, then the difficulty for the parties to officially support Edmundo Gonzalez. And the obstacles could accumulate between now and July 28.
