Edison accelerates in photovoltaic with new 41 MW plant in

(Finance) – Edison has a new 41 MW photovoltaic plant inaugurated in Aidone, Sicily within the growth strategy in renewable energy, which envisages 2 GW of installed photovoltaic capacity by 2030.

“With our investment plan in renewable sources we confirm thecommitment to the challenge of the energy transition aimed at creating a sustainable future for companies and people – declares the CEO Nicola Monti – Edison has a strong bond with Sicily where it is present through all the main businesses, from electricity generation to the sale of energy and value-added services for both public and private customers. Thanks to the new Aidone plant we further strengthen our presence in the region, increasing the share of renewable energy available to the area”

The Aidone photovoltaic park generates approximately 71.5 GWh of renewable energy per year, thus meeting the energy needs of 26,500 families and avoiding the emission into the atmosphere of over 29,000 tons of CO2 per year. The construction works began in November 2020 and lasted 2 and a half years, employing 45 supplier companies, for a total of over 140 thousand hours worked.

“With the Aidone plant we are launching a robust growth pipeline that will make Edison one of the reference players also in the photovoltaic sector. This is a more recent area than wind power, in which we are the leader in Italy, and in which we have important development targets – he comments Marco Stangalino, Executive Vice President Power Asset Edison – Sicily has a leading role in the energy transition and here we want to continue to be protagonists of sustainable growth. Over the next three years we plan to build a further 300 MW from renewable sources in the region, contributing to the generation of value both for the territory and for the communities that welcome us”.

In the first quarter 2024, the group has opened construction sites for new wind and photovoltaic projects throughout Italy amounting to 110 MW, while 0.8 GW of photovoltaic and 1.6 GW of wind power are in the process of being authorised, half of which relate to energy projects. complete reconstruction. Furthermore, last December Edison completed the construction of 6 photovoltaic plants in the provinces of Turin and Alessandria for a total of 34 MW.

As part of Edison’s development plan, Sicily is a highly strategic territory. At present, the group owns and manages 4 wind farms in the region of 104 MW located in the provinces of Trapani, Enna and Messina, and, in addition to the new 41 MW Aidone plant, a 5 MW photovoltaic plant in Agira (in the province of Enna). To these are added a new construction siterecently opened, for a 55 MW photovoltaic system in Tudia (PA), e 3 further systems 60 MW photovoltaic systems already authorized. Finally, the authorization processes are underway for the construction of 6 220 MW photovoltaic plants and 7 330 MW wind farms.
