Ecuadorian President Daniel Noboa has ordered the extradition of all foreign nationals imprisoned in the country. The measure comes as a result of the prison crisis in the country.
The prison authority in Ecuador must now ensure that the prisoners will serve their sentences in their home countries.
There are currently 33,000 prisoners in the country’s prisons, but there are only 30,200 places. According to an investigation in 2022, over 10 percent of the prisoners in the country were foreign nationals.
