ECOWAS adopts very heavy sanctions against the junta


Summit of the West African Monetary Union (UEMOA), this Sunday, January 9, in Accra, Ghana, with, on the table, the Malian file.

The regional organization met at an extraordinary summit in Accra, Ghana, this Sunday and endorsed the decisions taken by the West African Monetary Union a few hours earlier. The countries of West Africa have decided to freeze Malian assets within the BCEAO, to close the borders between Mali and the member states of the organization but also to suspend transactions with Bamako with the exception of medical and essential products. ECOWAS also decided to withdraw ambassadors from all member countries in Mali as well as other sanctions regarding financial aid.
