economy inequalities repression the fragile inner situation of the country

For several months, tensions between France and Algeria have been at the highest. An illustration of the overall crisis that Algiers has been going through in recent years, has weakening on the diplomatic scene, economic difficulties and challenges of the power in place.

Data on the Algerian economy may surprise. The country is in the top 3 of African economic powers in 2024, when you look at the gross domestic product. In first position, there is South Africa, followed by Egypt. And Algeria is on the third step.

It is also an important oil producer, member of OPEC: he is the 3rd producer in Africa behind Nigeria and Angola, and the 11th exporter on a global scale we can add that Algeria is to the 4th place in the strongest economies in Arab countries in 2024, its GDP experienced growth of more than 4 % in 2023, it is also the first African gas producer.

In short, the figures are attractive … but they hide a more complex economic reality, and especially in a country where democracy is very fragile …
