From 1967 to 1971, Goudschade was part of the House of Representatives faction of the Anti-Revolutionary Party (ARP), which later merged with the CDA. He was chairman of the committee that drew up the party’s first election manifesto, but in 1981 he turned his back on the Christian Democrats because he did not agree with the positive attitude of the CDA towards nuclear armament.
