Canon expands its range of MegaTank ink tank printers with four Pixma models. Main improvement, a higher printing speed, which makes them serious competitors of the small laser models.
If printers are not as much a dream as smartphones, game consoles or televisions, they are still very useful on a daily basis for printing documents (courses, reports, dissertations, etc.), photos or, more simply, labels to be affixed. on packages. After a rush – with stock shortages and sharp price increases – during the first confinement, the market has returned to normal and manufacturers are slowly evolving their ranges with a few discreet improvements, if not major innovations. It is against this calm background that Canon has just unveiled four new inkjet models in its MegaTank family, a series that uses ink reservoirs instead of traditional – and expensive – cartridges.
It should be remembered that this technology, which is found with other specialized manufacturers such as Epson (EcoTank series) or HP (Smart Tank series) allows significant savings to be made in use, because the cost of ink turns out to be significantly inferior to replacement of “branded” cartridges. Only consideration, they are significantly more expensive to purchase. But for those who print a lot and regularly – at home or in small businesses – the game is clearly worth the effort. Above all, these printers are clearly stepping on the toes of laser models, renowned for their low cost per page and their speed. And it is previously on this ground that Canon has made progress on its new MegaTank, which promises a higher printing speed and better rendering quality. Assets capable of convincing users looking for the best value for money in the long term.
Canon MegaTank Pixma: models for all needs
The MegaTank family is thus enriched with four new “general public” models, all managing the A4 format at most: the Pixma G4570, G3570, G2570 and G1530. The Pixma G1530 is the most bare and the least expensive: it is a simple USB printer with only a light indicator on its control panel. A little more sophisticated, the Pixma G2570 is a multifunction model (MFP for multi function printer, in the jargon of manufacturers) which is therefore both a printer, scanner and photocopier, only USB, but equipped with a small 3 cm LCD screen. Available in three colors (black, white and red), the Pixma G3570 is undoubtedly the flagship model of the new range: it also performs three functions – printing, scanning and copying – but has a slightly larger LCD screen. tall – 3.3 cm – and, it is Wi-Fi compatible for wireless connection with computers or mobile devices. Finally, the most “luxurious”, the Pixma G4570 is also the most anachronistic: in addition to the characteristics of the G3570, it also acts as a fax machine, which is no longer of interest these days! On the other hand, it is the only one to have a tray of 356 sheets, very practical pure copy or digitize documents in the chain.
Canon MegaTank Pixma: high-speed printers
Apart from these differences, the four new Pixma MegaTanks share several appreciable advances: their printing speed reaches 11 pages per minute in black and white and 6 pages per minute in color – ISO measurements –, which allows a fairly high throughput, comparable to that of entry-level laser printers. In addition, their capacity has also been upgraded compared to older models: Canon promises 6,000 pages printed with a black ink bottle (7,600 in economy mode) and 7,700 pages for a single set of black ink bottles. ink for color (8,100 in economy mode). Serious advantages for individuals as well as for small structures.
In addition, Canon guarantees high quality prints, on classic, photo, matte or even magnetic paper, thanks to the combination of colored and pigmented inks. In addition, the manufacturer ensures that its new Pixma are easy to use and maintain, including a user-replaceable maintenance cartridge, without having to go through a specialized service. In short, enough to satisfy intensive office use. Especially since the prices, certainly higher than for conventional cartridge printers, remain reasonable for models with ink tanks: 200 € for the G1530, 280 € for the G2570, 350 € for the G3570 and 370 € for the G4570. Note that the new Pixame will be available between December 2022 and January 2023.
