Ebba Busch spread incorrect information on social media.
After a storm of criticism, she deleted her Instagram post – and now she is commenting on the incident for the first time.
“The error was due to the human factor and has now been corrected,” she writes via her press secretary in a text message to TV4 Nyheterna.
Christian Democrat party leader Ebba Busch spread an incorrect text about the new law on anonymous witnesses on social media.
“Now you who have been the victim of a crime can testify anonymously,” she wrote on Instagram and Facebook.
The legal text does not mention the plaintiff, i.e. the accused, at all. After a storm of criticism, the deputy prime minister chose to delete the post on Instagram after 15 hours and change the Facebook post.
“KD starts the new year in a strikingly ignorant way. Anonymous witnesses do not mean the possibility of anonymity for the accused (plaintiff)”, writes lawyer Peter Hellman X.
First words after the miss
Now she is commenting on the incident for the first time.
“Yesterday, an incorrect partial picture was posted about anonymous witnesses. The error was due to the human factor and has now been corrected,” writes Ebba Busch via her press secretary in a text message to TV4 Nyheterna.
Political criticism
The criticism of the original, erroneous, post has been criticized both by lawyers and politicians. The Social Democrats’ legal policy spokesperson Teresa Carvalho believes that the mistake was not something to be taken lightly.
“Ebba Busch blames her incorrect post on the human factor. Of course everyone can make mistakes. But the inaccuracy was no small detail. The Swedish people must be able to trust that what the deputy prime minister says is true,” she signs X.
Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson has also commented on the post and tells TT that everything has now been corrected.
– Those who have been against it all along now seem to be wallowing in pleasure that it is an incorrect description. I can offer that, but the big thing is the decision itself, he says.
