Ebba Årsjö’s completely honest words about the huge success – can now do what no one thought possible: “It’s nervous”

Ebba Årsjö has an incredible season behind her.
Now she is close to doing the impossible.

– This last tour will suck the juice out of me and my leg, she says to SVT.

Ebba Årsjö has completely dominated the alpine para sport in recent years, and for this winter she laid out a new, daring plan. This is Ebba Årsjö’s third World Cup season, and she has had a dream of winning the overall World Cup, but there are aggravating circumstances for her.

Close to doing the impossible

Due to the constant pain in her leg, Årsjö has chosen to completely sit out all downhill races this season. Årsjö thus misses out on important points, but thanks to its dominance in slalom and giant slalom, Årsjö leads the World Cup with 20 points ahead of rival Marie Bochet.

Now Årsjö enters the very last World Cup weekend of the season, and if she wants to, the Swede succeeds in what was previously classified as impossible – to win the World Cup despite being above the speed races.

– It is exciting and nervous. I think I have the chance right now as this week there were supposed to be speed races but that has been completely removed due to bad conditions. Then it feels like I definitely have a better chance. But it will be a fight right to the end here in Italy precisely because it is so tight with the points, says Årsjö to SVT.

“Suck the must is me”

The advantage for Ebba Årsjö is that the competitions that remain are two in giant slalom and one in slalom. It was all set to wrap up with the super-G on Monday, but there are doubts whether that event will go ahead due to the tough conditions in Italy. And that is exactly what wears extra on Årsjö’s legs.

– When there are conditions like this when it’s hard sometimes and hits a lot and then becomes icy out of nowhere, it’s not a nice feeling in any turn. The leg has to work a lot more. I like it when it’s rock hard and icy so I can ride clean all the way. Now it will be a bit more uphill for me, but it is what it is, she says.

Ebba Årsjö believes, however, that she will not spare any powder during the closing.

– This last tour will suck the juice out of me and my leg, but it’s worth it. It’s just to bite the bullet for the last few races. I can exhaust myself and today is a rest day and it’s important that I don’t do anything with my leg, she says.
