Therese Johaug makes a much talked about comeback.
Then Ebba Andersson brings up an unexpected detail – which can benefit her.
– It’s an advantage, says Ebba.
Therese Johaug chose to end her career after the last Winter Olympics, but it didn’t take too long before rumors of her comeback started coming. Now Johaug is in hard training for the big return to cross-country skiing, and it is with strained eyes that she will compete in the World Cup again this winter.
Talked about comeback
Therese Johaug has her sights set on the WC, which will be decided in February in Trondheim, Norway. It was two years since Johaug’s last race but she is said to have been training hard since then, and the reports from Norway have been that she is in top form, even though during the period away from the skis she had time to become a mother. Johaug was totally dominant before she hung up her skis, and she has won everything there is to win in the sport.
Now many fear that Johaug will once again be as superior as she was before she ended her career, when she basically won every single distance race she competed in. It is already clear that Johaug will do a maximum of a handful of races in the World Cup this winter before the WC , where she will put all her focus. But for Ebba Andersson, Johaug’s comeback has hardly been something that occupied all of her thinking.
Ebba’s play
In an interview with the skiing site langd.se, Andersson says that she was not surprised by the decision – but also that it did not affect her thoughts ahead of the upcoming season.
– I can’t say that it came as a big surprise that she would make a comeback. And it’s just a matter of making sure to come well equipped to invite battle. Then there is a very long time left and a lot of time to be done, so that Therese will come back, I have not chosen to waste any energy on yet, says Andersson.
Ebba Andersson also believes that Johaug’s comeback can be to her advantage.
– Then it is clear that the challenge is that there will be another strong competitor, on the other hand, I see it as an advantage that there will be another rider who, just like me, likes to set a high pace in the races. Because I expect that she, just like me, wants that, she says.
