Ebba Andersson’s perfect pass to Armand Duplantis – for the action after the Sports Gala: “I’m still waiting…”

Ebba Andersson won the prestigious Jerring prize.
After a real blue-yellow settlement with Armand Duplantis.
Now the Swedish ski star sends a neat pass to “Mondo”.

It has been a tough season for Ebba Andersson with setbacks and illness that affected her greatly. But the big highlight during the winter was of course the Sports Gala in January.

Wins the Jerring Prize

Andersson was not nominated in any of the usual categories, but then got his big revenge when the Swedish people were to choose this year’s winner of the Jerring Prize. Unfortunately, the skiing star could not be there and had to follow the drama on the television screen.
– That was unbelievable! I was sitting in my hotel room in Switzerland and was between two competitions, so I followed the gala and with each round of voting I was surprised that I was left. I had been prepared to be on a video link and it was only when I sat there connected that I realized: “What should I actually say!?”, Ebba says in an interview with P4 Extra.

In the end it was just the ski hero and the pole vault star Armand Duplantis in the fight for the prestigious prize. But Andersson had no expectations at all and basically already threw in the towel.
– I had already given away that crystal bowl to Armand. In my head, he was the one who was going to take it home. So I just prepared to applaud him. Once they called my name, I just sat there and thought: “Huh!?”. I kind of didn’t understand that it was my name they had said, she says in the radio program.

Fitting for Mondo

She was completely surprised when it became clear that Ebba Andersson won the vote ahead of one of the world’s best track and field athletes. There was no doubt about the matter either, because Ebba received almost twice as many votes as “Mondo”.
– Only afterwards did I understand how big and real this was. My teammates ran into the room and all the congratulatory texts ticked in. No one can take that particular win away from you, and now it was extra prestigious that it was a Jerring prize that you took home. It was big! A very valuable award from the Swedish people and that’s what you really take with you, admits the 26-year-old.

But a couple of months after the gala, Ebba Andersson now comes with a clear fit for Duplantis. Because she hasn’t even received a “congratulations” from Mondo yet.
– Well, I’m still waiting for a congratulations…
