Ebba Andersson’s last year was fantastic.
But at this weekend’s World Cup premiere, she will not start.
– It’s tough, says women’s coach Stefan Thomson to Expressen.
Ebba Andersson has really developed into one of the best Swedish skiers. The 26-year-old has been at the top of the world for several years now, but has recently stepped up to the next level and started picking up the medals.
Andersson’s successes
Then the big stars Charlotte Kalla and Therese Johaug ended her skiing careers, Ebba Andersson has become one of the skiers who have taken over the place on the throne. Now Ebba is one of the most popular athletes we have, thanks to her charm and incredible skiing.

Last season was Andersson’s best in his career in terms of merit. Four wins in the World Cup, and as many WC medals during the championship in Planica. Then there were two golds and two bronzes, and Ebba was named WC queen.
During the Swedish premiere in Gällivare, Andersson won the 10 kilometer classic, came third in the 10 kilometer free, and made it to the semifinals in the sprint.
Ebba’s setback
This season is championship-free, and like many other riders, Ebba has her sights set on winning the overall World Cup this year. She has therefore worked extra hard to develop in sprints in order to achieve more points.
The World Cup premiere didn’t even get started before Ebba Andersson suffered a setback in her pursuit of the overall World Cup. The 26-year-old is not selected for Friday’s sprint.
– It’s tough in the sprint. We all know that and Ebba is not enough. So then it will be these seven riders instead. It shows how tough the competition is in the team, says women’s coach Stefan Thomson to Expressen.

Instead it is Jonna Sundling, Emma Ribom, Maja Dahlqvist, Lynn Svahn, Johanna Hagstrom, Frida Karlsson and Moa Lundgren which will start for Sweden.
– But it must still be said that Ebba did a good sprint in Gällivare and has stepped up, says national team manager Anders Byström to the evening newspaper.
In the men’s team it is Edwin Anger, Marcus Grate, Calle Halfvarsson, William Poromaa, Johan Häggström and Emil Danielsson which comes to the start in the sprint.
The sprint qualifying starts on Friday at 10.00 Swedish time.
