Ebba Andersson’s confession – uses controversial drug

Antidoping Sweden has come out and warned about the preparation.
Now it is revealed that several Swedish skiers have used it.
Star skater Ebba Andersson admits that she is one of them.

It has become a huge buzzword in the world of athletics and has now also made its way into skiing. More and more athletes have started to use the controversial preparation from the company Maurten, which provides bicarbonate supplementation in the form of a gel-like substance in tablets.

Questioned preparation

Bicarbonate counteracts lactic acid that forms in the muscles and therefore helps endurance athletes. But the major side effect has been that you can get severe stomach problems from the supplement, which Maurten has now solved.
– We have come up with a solution and design for the body to tolerate the bicarbonate. You can call it a transport system for the bicarbonate, says Tobias Christenssonhead of nutrition at Maurten in the podcast “Run nicely”.
– That is why it has become so insanely popular now.

During the Summer Olympics in Paris, it was reported that 80 percent of all runners used bicarbonate supplements. The preparations are not classified as doping with Antidoping Sweden still goes out and warns against using bicarbonate supplements, as there may be unwanted substances in dietary supplements.

Ebba now admits

Many athletes have noticed a difference and performance-enhancing effect and the preparation has been debated whether it should even be allowed. Now Ebba Andersson, one of the world’s best cross-country skiers right now, admits that she has used the preparation from Maurten.
– Yes, I’ve tried it. But not very consistently, she tells Expressen.
– I have had both positive and less positive experiences of it. I’ve experienced when it worked perfectly – but also when it didn’t.

The Swedish figure skater tells more about the negative effects she has experienced with the addition of bicarbonate.
– I felt that my body was not really receptive to it. That I mostly felt heavy and sick. And how well do you perform then? Then it’s just as well to screw it up, says the 26-year-old in the interview.

However, she is no stranger to using the questionable dietary supplement again.
– It can happen! I’ve had too few negative effects for me to close the door on it completely going forward. We’ll see, she says to the evening newspaper.
