Ebba Andersson does her first five-mile run in Holmenkollen on Saturday
And maybe also his last.
– It’s a shame, says the Swedish skiing star.
When the ladies rode 50 kilometers for the first time last year they got sick Ebba Andersson at the last moment, but this time she is ready to complete the test of strength in the classic “Kollen”.
The question is whether she will get the chance again. Next year it looks like the race will disappear from the World Cup programme.
– I think it’s a shame that there doesn’t seem to be room for it, considering how many World Cup competitions we run in a season. Holmenkollen deserves more than that, there is so much history and tradition here, says Ebba Andersson on the phone from Oslo.
“Worth a review”
One reason why the five-mile race is being scrapped is the low interest among the riders last year, SVT has reported, among other things. Only 32 and 36 riders respectively came to the start in the women’s and men’s classes. But then the competition weekend in Holmenkollen was directly after the WC – far from optimal.
– It feels worth reviewing it, if you can find another space for it in the calendar. Instead of doing it right after a championship when everyone is worn out both physically and mentally.

In any case, it is clear that the five-mile will be included as a WC distance in Trondheim next year. Saturday’s race will therefore be an excellent opportunity for Ebba Andersson – world champion at 30 kilometers – to familiarize herself with the new championship distance.
– It will be very exciting, I have never ridden that far in the World Cup at all, but only tested it in the long-distance circus before. I have to keep in mind to get some extra carbohydrates when I stand at the buffet and pick food for myself tonight, says the 26-year-old.

Tia last weekend
The form has failed this winter, actually ever since she contracted covid before the Tour de Ski. But she does not dare to answer whether it was bad skiing or weak form that was the biggest reason for the modest tenth place in the two miles in Lahti last weekend.
– We didn’t have clean material and it feels like there is an upward trend in form, says Andersson before the tough task ahead.
– Normally, we finish after three miles, but at five miles, that’s about when it starts to get difficult. And then there are two miles to go…
