Ebba Andersson herself does not know why she does it.
But she has to do that during every race, admits the Swede.
– It has gone from a subconscious thing to a must, she tells Expressen.
The last few months have been very tough for Ebba Andersson. After a good start to the ski season, she fell ill with covid around Christmas and since then it has not been possible to recognize the Swedish WC queen.
Andersson’s success
Her name has been completely absent from the top positions at the World Cup and the disappointment has been total for this year’s Jerring Prize winner. But this weekend, the 25-year-old finally managed to reach his usual standard again.

During the ladies’ five-mile race in Holmenkollen, Ebba fought her way to a strong second place, behind the sovereigns Frida Karlsson who won the long race. It was the reigning world champion’s first podium since December.
– It was long-awaited! I probably don’t need to say more than that, says Andersson to Expressen.

The Swedish ski star does it before every ski race and she actually doesn’t know where it comes from.
– No not at all. It’s maybe like Frida Karlsson skating with her tongue out or what Stefan Holm was doing before he hit the high jump bar. It is habitual behavior. Moa Lundgren always yawns before the start, for example. We all have our things, she says to the evening newspaper.
– It’s some form of tics that happens completely unconsciously.

The first to alert Ebba to what she was doing at the starting line was her father and coach Per-Ola Andersson.
– When I then thought about it, I realized myself: “But God, I’m really standing here spitting.” Why do I do that?”. Nowadays I just have to do it. It has gone from a subconscious thing to a must, she admits in the interview.
