The Swedish national ski team is now starting the WC upload.
But then one of the biggest stars chooses to leave the team.
– It was her wish and so it will be, says national team coach Anders Byström to Sportbladet.
This weekend the last World Cup race before the World Ski Championships was decided and it was a new success for Sweden Ebba Andersson. After returning from covid-19, the 25-year-old has lined up victories and also written blue and yellow sports history.
Ebba’s success
Andersson won the distance race in Italian Toblach and took his third straight distance victory at the World Cup, no other Swede has won so many distance races in a row in a World Cup context before. She is really in top form ahead of the upcoming Skiing WC but now chooses to leave the rest of the WC squad.

When the Swedish ski national team loads up for the WC in Toblach and Livigno, there is only one skier who chooses to do something completely different. Ebba Andersson has decided to leave the WC team and go home to Sollefteå instead.
– Exactly, Ebba will recharge at home in Sweden. She has had a strong desire for it. Given the shape she is in, we want to be careful to customize as much as possible for her sake. She wanted to be at home and you have to be. It was her wish and so it will be, says the national team coach Anders Byström to Sportbladet.

Sweden’s response
Skiing WC in Planica takes place from February 21 to March 5, and then Ebba will sharpen her form on Swedish soil to come fully charged and ready to chase medals.
– She is usually on a high before championships, she was both before the Olympics (2022) and the WC in Oberstdorf (2021) and it worked well. But she feels good at home in Sweden and she also has her father (Per-Ola Andersson) there and close to everything. So she wanted to test it this time and yes, it will be interesting to see how it turns out, says Byström in the interview.

Ebba Andersson had a brilliant start to the ski season and lined up podium places at the World Cup. Then the national team Swede was affected by covid-19 and missed two months and competing during the winter.

Then she stayed at home in Sweden and trained to then return to the World Cup and make a complete success with three consecutive World Cup victories.
– Yes, it went relatively well last time… We hope for the same outcome this time, says the national team coach to the evening newspaper.
