Eating late at night leads to greater fat storage and therefore weight gain, this practice is also generally discouraged by nutritionists. But according to a British study, it would actually be possible to dine later than usual… on one condition.
Because of work, a sports session or because we go out to eat at the restaurant, the time at which we have dinner in the evening may vary. While some eat fairly early, around 7 p.m., others eat their meal around 9:30 p.m., which is usually not recommended by nutritionists.
A late evening meal is possible
According to work carried out by Tim Spector, professor of genetic epidemiology at King’s College London, it would be quite possible to finish dinner at 9.30 p.m.
Indeed, he is the author of a study of 80,000 Britons and their eating habits during the day. The specialist thus analyzed the times of their meals and the time lapse between each of them.
NO to diets, YES to WW!
Only one condition to respect to avoid weight gain
The preliminary conclusions of his work show that it is quite possible to dine late. The only condition to respect to avoid weight gain is to fast until 11:30 am ideally or more.
Breakfast must therefore be taken late, in order to respect a fast of at least fourteen hours. This, in order to respect the rhythm of the intestinal microbiota, which needs this rest time between each of our meals.
For Professor Spector therefore, “people often eat late because of work and children and they shouldn’t feel guilty about it. The important thing is not to snack in the evening, to try not to have breakfast early and not to go to bed within two hours of dinner. ” he concludes.
