A new American study links regular consumption of avocado to a reduced risk of cardiovascular disease.

Eating two servings of avocado per week would reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease. If this virtue of the avocado was already known, a new study published in the journal Journal of the American Heart Associationcomes to confirm it.

“This study is proof that avocados can have health benefits. This is promising because it is a popular, accessible, desirable and easy food to include in meals eaten at home and in restaurants.”indicates in the study the Pr Cheryl Anderson, president of the Council of epidemiology and prevention of the American Heart Association.

    Thirty years of follow-up

For thirty years, more than 68,000 women aged 30 to 55 and more than 41,000 men aged 40 to 75 were followed by researchers at the University of California. None of them had a history of cancer, coronary heart disease or stroke. After listing their diet and the approximate amount of avocados consumed every four years, they listed 9,185 coronary diseases and 5,290 heart attacks.

Result: people who eat two servings of avocado per week have, respectively, 16% and 21% less risk of having cardiovascular or coronary disease, compared to people who eat little or none at all. However, no association between the consumption of this fruit and the risk of heart attacks has been established. For scientists, it would be enough to replace half a portion of butter, egg or meat with the same quantity of avocados to obtain a beneficial effect, that is to say a reduction of 16 to 22% in the risk of cardiovascular disease. .
