EasyJet the company changes its cabin baggage policy news

The airline company easyJet now offers its passengers the option to take large cabin baggage on board as an optional extra.

[Mis à jour le 12 novembre 2021 à 15h55] Are you planning to fly to a new destination with EasyJet in the near future? Since the beginning of November, know that the low-cost airline has been offering a new hand luggage option for its customers. By paying an additional charge of at least £ 5.99, it is thus possible to embark with a large carry-on bag in addition to your usual small hand luggage. The option can be added when booking your flight via the mobile application, and on the easyJet.com site “in the coming weeks”, regardless of the seat price. Previously, this paid option was only available to easyJet Plus cardholders and FLEXI fare customers. By choosing this option, you also gain access to fast boarding.

Not sure about the time limit for check-in or baggage drop-off? Want to follow your flight live due to strike type disruptions or bad weather? This is possible via the “Flight Tracker” which allows you to consult all the information concerning your Easyjet flight. To do this, simply have your flight number ready. You can also find a flight by indicating its origin and destination. The company updates the news on the state of the traffic, particularly in the event of new control formalities, social movements or unexpected events at the airport.

You can check-in directly at the airport, but Easyjet advises to do so online. An option that has several advantages. First of all, it allows you to print boarding passes for all your flights up to 30 days before departure: no need to find a printer during your vacation to get your boarding pass for the return trip. , you are quiet. In addition, at the airport, the wait will be shorter: if you only have cabin baggage, go directly to security checks. If you have baggage to put in the hold, find a baggage drop counter. Arrive early enough, however, with baggage drop-offs and boarding gates closing at least 30 to 40 minutes before departure.

Faced with the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, EasyJet announced that it was modifying its baggage policy, the type of seat reserved now determining the type of cabin baggage allowed. The suitcase will therefore become chargeable for certain fares and impossible for the lowest, only the bag that can slip under the seat will remain free for all passengers.

For all bookings made from today for travel from February 10, 2021, “the new policy means that all customers can take a small bag on board free of charge under the seat (max 45x36x20cm) which must fit under the seat. the seat in front. This will allow them to bring everything they need for their trip or enough for a short trip “, we can read in the press release of the low cost. To travel with a cabin suitcase in addition to a small bag, the traveler can choose the paid option (from 10.49 euros) allowing to reserve a front seat or an “Extra legroom” seat (space for legs) and take your bag in the cabin (max 56x45x25cm) or place your luggage in the hold. EasyJet Plus cardholders and FLEXI fare customers will also continue to have extra large cabin baggage included in their reservation, provided there is sufficient space on board.

If your flight is delayed for more than 5 hours, you can cancel your flight and receive a full refund. Also note that if your trip is delayed overnight, Easyjet takes care of accommodation, transfer and meals. If your flight is canceled, you can choose to be transferred to the next flight, or opt for a full refund. In addition, if your flight arrives more than three hours after the scheduled time, or if it is canceled within 14 days of departure, you can claim compensation. This amounts to 250 euros for a trip of up to 1,500 km, 400 euros for a trip of 1,500 to 3,500 km, and 600 euros for flights over 3,500 km (for the overseas departments, the amount is capped at 400 euros). However, if the delay or cancellation is considered an “exceptional circumstance” (bad weather, air traffic control strike, etc.), you will not be able to claim compensation.

The orange company has notably launched the “Worldwide by Easyjet” platform which will allow passengers to book long-haul connections in continuity with flights already operated by the company. To begin with, this facility will be available from London Gatwick with two launch partners, WestJet and Norwegian. Easyjet has therefore designed a system to book its short-haul flight, Gatwick Connects and the long-haul ticket of the partner airline, all with a single transaction. This system only works with connections of at least 2.5 hours.

Called Flight Club, the Easyjet loyalty program launched in 2015 does not allow you to accumulate miles or win free tickets, but offers advantages, particularly in terms of services. This allows members to change their flights and names on tickets free of charge. On the price side, Easyjet offers them the “price guarantee” allowing passengers who find a cheaper ticket elsewhere, on an equivalent flight, to be reimbursed for the price difference. In addition, if the customer realizes that the price has dropped on the Easyjet site between the time of his reservation and his departure, the company offers a voucher equivalent to the price difference. Members also have access to previews and special offers, as well as a dedicated contact team. How do you get there? By invitation of the company, if you have booked and flown 20 or more flights in the last 12 months, or if you have booked and flown 10 or more flights and spent 1,500 pounds (approximately 1,754 euros) in the past 12 months, or if you have booked and flown an average of 10 or more flights over the past 10 years, with at least one flight each year. It allows you to book flights, choose your seat, add options (additional baggage, for example), manage your reservation (in particular to modify or cancel a trip), or even follow your flight in real time. Good news if you travel regularly with EasyJet, the British low cost has launched a new feature on its mobile application which should be useful to many travelers. This feature uses augmented reality to scan cabin baggage and ensure that it meets the maximum dimensions authorized by the low-cost airline. The main one is simple: the scanner visualizes a 3D box on the screen of your smartphone. Combined with the phone’s camera, it measures the size of your cabin suitcase (height, width and depth of the baggage) directly from your home.
