Michel Rukunda, alias Makanika, was killed on February 19 in the Minembwe region, in South Kivu. Former colonel of the Congolese army, he was presented as the chief of Twirwaneho, an armed group that the United Nations experts describe as having links with the Congo River Alliance (AFC), of which the M23 is a part.
