East Chatham home damaged in early morning fire

No injuries have been reported after a fire caused extensive damage to an east Chatham home early Saturday morning.

Firefighters from Station No. 1 Chatham responded to blaze on Wellington Street East at 3:23 am, arriving to find flames coming from the first floor windows of the home, said a media release from Chatham-Kent Fire and Rescue.

“Firefighters were able to quickly knock down the fire on the first floor,” CKFR said.

Firefighters continued to work on the second storey of the home to pull the ceiling to gain access to “a deep-seated fire that had spread into the attic,” CKFR added.

No one was home at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported.

Chatham-Kent police and Chatham-Kent EMS were on scene assisting fire crews.

The damage estimate is unknown and the cause of the fire is under investigation, CKFD reported.
