EA first makes a serious mistake in FC 24, then makes a strange decision at the expense of the players

A serious mistake in FC 24 shook up the FIFA scene. EA gave out far too good rewards, at least to some players for a while, due to an incorrectly calculated pack probability. While some were able to enjoy really strong cards, the majority of the community has to deal with bug fixes Suffer.

What kind of mistake was that? On Friday evening (May 10th), several users on different platforms made posts that showed really strong player choices from the Ultimate Team Champions Finals rewards.

Many posts showed that several players were rewarded with the Team of the Season (TOTS) versions of Mbappé and Dembélé. Here you can see an exemplary compilation of these player picks:

One pick alone with Mbappé and Dembélé, who are the most expensive players from the current TOTS of the French Ligue 1, is worth over 20 million coins.

It can only happen in very rare cases that a single player draws both superstars at the same time. However, since the cards were circulating on the Internet with unusual frequency, it quickly became clear to attentive observers that this was a mistake on EA’s part.

The short statement says: “We have identified an error in which the Champions player selections caused unwanted results. This has been corrected in-game.”

New, weak rewards at players’ expense

What impact did the correction have on player choices? And you could actually clearly see EA’s revision. While most player selections prior to the intervention included at least one player worth over a million coins, at a certain point the strong rate leveled off dramatically.

You can see this shift in this highlight video from a German streamer, who captured both the good and the bad rewards. You can fast forward to 11:30 after the first strong player picks to see the weak player picks after EA’s intervention:

Instead of the million-dollar players in the player picks, from a certain point onwards only the cheapest cards from the Ligue 1 TOTS appeared. The most valuable and valuable players were suddenly swallowed up by the earth.

The first reactions from the community to the changed rewards were not long in coming. Many players and also some well-known streamers commented on EA’s mistake and how it was handled.

The faux pas was very reminiscent of a fail that occurred during Team of the Year (TOTY) in FC 24: Some players almost got a card worth 9 million coins for free – others are pissed that they missed the chance

Community thinks new rewards are a “joke”

What does the community say about EA’s approach? The FIFA community let off a lot of steam in the comments. Well-known international personalities from the scene also commented on EA’s message on X/formerly Twitter.

FC-24 content creator NepentheZ wrote under the post: “You have to be joking. Leave it as it was. Everyone was happy. Crazy, really crazy how you want to screw people who play your competitive game mode.”

His comment received over 10,000 likes. Many other posts directly address the perceived injustice.

BEASTAF’s comment sums up the community’s opinion: “Well, because I didn’t play on Friday, there’s no red Mbappé or Dembélé for me. “That gives me Messi TOTY vibes.”

German streamers also have their say: The German content creator and former FIFA professional Tim Latka made a statement on his YouTube channel on Saturday morning. In this he also referred to EA’s announcement.

Above all, he considers the handling of the error to be questionable. Instead of simply sweeping the mistake under the rug and making the player choices worse, he sees it like NepentheZ: The mistake should simply be kept as it is in order to give everyone the same chances.

Even if EA couldn’t bring itself to do this, they had to at least accommodate the community and offer meaningful compensation. Tim Latka is in favor of additional player picks to at least slightly increase the probability of an Mbappé or Dembélé.

But it seems to remain the case that only the people who were able to benefit from the error on Friday evening/Saturday night can be happy. The majority of the community is probably left behind in this sense.
