EA Sports FC 24 continues the FIFA series without using the established name. Nevertheless, the game seems to have a high number of players, explains the developer.
This is what EA says about player numbers in FC 24: In a press release, EA Sports took stock of the game since the release of EA FC 24.
According to the developer, 11.3 million players joined the game in EA FC 24’s first week. For comparison: Last year, in the case of FIFA 23, EA Sports spoke of 10.3 million players in the first week and stated that this was the previous record. This would have broken with this year’s number.
Cam Weber, President of EA Sports, said they are excited about the launch: “Not only are we welcoming back millions of our long-time players, the number of new players in FC 24 has also increased by almost 20% compared to last year” ( via ea.com).
This is what you should note: In the case of EA FC 24, it is noticeable that EA explicitly mentions in the announcement that the 11.3 million players also include EA Play, while this is not the case in the announcement for FIFA 23 (via ea.com).
However, you only get trial access to EA FC 24 via regular EA Play; currently only EA Play Pro provides the full game. We have requested further information about this.
EA FC 24 instead of FIFA – Why the name change?
The new numbers are particularly interesting because EA Sports FC represented a sea change for EA. After many years in which the name “FIFA” became established among fans of the football series, EA Sports said goodbye to the well-known title.
While the content of the game is still very close to that of the FIFA series, it was unclear how the name change would affect the number of players in the new game. According to the new figures from EA, at least the release period does not seem to have suffered from the change.
Why is the game now called EA FC 24? Back in May 2022, EA Sports announced that the “next FIFA” after FIFA 23 would no longer be called “FIFA”.
This was preceded by the end of the partnership with FIFA, the world football association. This was already apparent in 2021, when the first reports about a high price for the FIFA name began making the rounds.
In 2023 the time had come and EA FC 24 appeared without the well-known FIFA name, but still with player licenses, stadiums, leagues and similar content that we know from before.
