The accident happened at 3pm on Monday when the lorry drove into the center barrier and became suspended over both lanes. Initially, traffic was able to move in the northbound direction, but the road was closed again. At 21.30 in the evening, E4 was reopened.
Gideon Lind was driving E4 from Jönköping and heard about the accident on the radio. Once he passed the accident scene, police and emergency personnel were on the scene.
– It looked completely sick, to see the back of the trailer at the front and the deformation in the middle of the trailer was a shock. I thought it was incredibly lucky that the truck didn’t go all the way over the guardrail. Then it could have ended really badly, he tells SVT Nyheter.
The accident occurred in a water protection area and the truck was leaking diesel. The road had to be cleared and the truck recovered.
– The work went much faster than expected, says Bengt Olsson, press manager at the Swedish Transport Administration.
The driver escaped unhurt.
More accidents in the snowstorm
There have been several accidents in the county. Among other things, a truck has overturned on national highway 32 at the entrance to Tranås and on Parkgatan in central Jönköping, two cars have driven into each other. None of the victims were injured.
A passenger car has driven off the road on the E4 at the height of Torsvik and on national highway 27 at the height of Rydaholm there has been a single car accident.
The Swedish Transport Agency urges caution when going out on the roads.
– It doesn’t matter how many vehicles we have out to combat slippage, it will be messy on the roads, says press manager Bengt Olsson.
Risk of slipping in the morning traffic
After the snowy weather, plus temperatures and rain are expected. Something that will cause it in the morning traffic.
– It will be challenging road conditions when it freezes on the road. It will be slippery in many places.
How do you prepare for this?
– We have a number of heavy haulers and plow trucks outside. Then slip prevention is underway. The major roads are prioritized. Other roads will take longer, says Bengt Olsson.
