€20 simulation has 96% positive reviews – Is so realistic that a real company is now looking for drivers there

Driving and flight simulations are a genre of their own. For outsiders, it seems crazy that some people spend their day virtually driving from A to B without getting up from their PC. However, “American Truck Simulator” (Steam) does its job so well that it has achieved 96% positive reviews on Steam and now a large trucking company is recruiting drivers there.

What is American Truck Simulator game?

  • American Truck Simulator was released on February 2, 2016, it is a spin-off of “Euro Truck Simulator 2”. It costs €20 on Steam, going up to €81 for a bundle of 9 DLCs.
  • Essentially, the player drives a semi truck and has to deliver goods. To do this, he founds a company, finds a hometown and gets his own truck garage, which from then on serves as his home base.
  • At the beginning, the player drives borrowed trucks until he earns enough money to build up his own fleet. Over time, the player unlocks more skills, can even hire NPC drivers and further upgrade the garage.

For gamers, the simulator is pure relaxation

What do the reviews say? For many fans of American Truck Simulator, the game seems to be incredibly relaxing above all else. The reviews say:

  • “The game is really fun if you want to clear your head. I play it all the time and listen to music.”
  • “The graphics and details are great. I love driving through areas that I know.”
  • “All the roads, trips and the feeling – without the painfully expensive price of gas. Perfect for the budget conscious tourist.”
  • Patrick Freese from MeinMMO: In American Truck Simulator I have collected almost 100 hours of play. But my favorite in this area remains Euro Truck Simulator 2, where I get about 900 hours of play. For me, these simulators are ideal to wind down after a hard day. I also listen to a relaxed podcast that doesn’t require me to concentrate too much, and then I drive my tours across Europe with the steering wheel.
As a casual game to switch off your mind, I can recommend these truck simulators.

The game is intended to help compensate for the shortage of skilled workers among professional drivers

This is the latest development: The game is so popular that now a major trucking company, Schneider National, has started using huge in-game billboards to solicit new hires. Previously, the developers used the billboards to show new updates. Now a real trucker company is courting employees there.

There are indications that one tests in the “relatively small” American Truck Simulator in order to advance into the even larger “Euro Truck Simulator” 2.

“Get your career going” – the forwarding company is courting players.

The developers say that when approached by the company, they were excited and decided to work together:

“[…] It is an opportunity to help the truck industry, which is suffering from a lack of skilled workers at the moment.”

Players don’t seem to mind that their game now has giant billboards. One even finds it “good and realistic”, as one user says on Twitter.
