Dwyane Wade’s statue in Miami mocked: ‘Will haunt me’

It’s not the first time a statue of a celebrity has been erected in tribute, but instead mocked for its appearance. It has happened, among others, to Cristiano Ronaldo, who received a statue at Madeira airport.

Now the turn has come to the American basketball player Dwyane Wade, who played for the Miami Heat in the NBA. Wade, now 42 and retired from basketball, is considered to have been one of the greatest players in the league ever.

“Will Haunt Me”

On Sunday, a large statue representing the star of the bridge was unveiled – and the reactions have not been long in coming. The statue commissioned by the Miami Heat now stands outside the Kaseya Center in Miami.

Sports journalist Jeff Darlington posts a picture of the statue of X and writes:

“The Miami Heat should have had a contest where they showed this picture to 1,000 fans – and whoever guessed it was Dwyane Wade got to keep the statue.”

Another user on X writes:

“The Dwyane Wade statue will haunt me until the day I die.”

Wade: Who’s that guy?

In videos circulated after the incident, Dwyane Wade can be seen chuckling as he looks towards the statue. During the ceremony, he was moved, but one comment has some fans thinking that Wade doesn’t really recognize himself in the statue.

– It’s crazy, I can hardly believe it, who is that guy?, he says and points back towards the statue.
