All that for this. This is the sad conclusion that we can make after reading Dwayne Johnson’s tweet announcing that his Black Adam will ultimately have no future in the new DCU imagined by James Gunn and Peter Safran. Just like Henry Cavill, brought back to the forceps in the post-credits scene of Black Adam, the most bankable actor in Hollywood was not selected to appear in this global reboot. It is all the more regrettable because Dwayne Johnson had fought fifteen years to convince producers to trust him to play this anti-hero capable of competing with Superman in the hierarchy of powers. But the 10-year plan imagined by the two men at the head of the new DCU does not intend to integrate the character of Black Adam within this new story.

My fellow enthusiasts, I wanted to update you on Black Adam regarding the character’s future in the new DC Universe. James Gunn and I talked to each other, and Black Adam won’t be part of the first story arc. However, DC and Seven Bucks have agreed to continue exploring the most valuable ways to utilize Black Adam within DC’s future Multiverse.
James and I have known each other for years and we have always done things to succeed. It’s no different now, and I will always support DC (and Marvel) to win and WIN BIG. You know me, and I have thick skin – and you can always count on me to be honest with you. These decisions made by James and DC executives represent their vision for DCU through their creative lens.
Out of politeness, James Gunn mentioned that Black Adam could come back when discussing the Multiverse, but it’s an elegant way to announce the retirement of a character who hadn’t really convinced the audience. Dwayne Johnson nevertheless says he is very proud of the result obtained for Black Adam, and takes the opportunity to thank the fans without whom this project would never have taken place. The goal for him is to always listen to the fans and keep them entertained. One thing is certain, with such a new decision, James Gunn and Peter Safran risk continuing to be strongly criticized and harassed on social networks; something that the director of the three Guardians of the Galaxy did not hesitate to denounce recently.
