Commander of the Dutch Land Forces, Lieutenant General Martin Wijnen, made evaluations about the army to the Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf.
“WE MUST BE PREPARED FOR WAR WITH RUSSIA”
Stating that the Netherlands should be more prepared for a conflict with Russia, Wijnen emphasized that this does not mean that “everyone will start wearing a helmet”, but that his country should follow the example of Sweden, Finland and the Baltic countries, which have a border with Russia and whose people are much more prepared for war. Wijnen: “We must be prepared for war with Russia.” he said.

“The Netherlands needs to learn that the whole society must be ready when things go wrong,” Wijnen said. he said.
Noting that the Netherlands should not think that its security is guaranteed because it is 1500 kilometers away from Russia, Wijnen said, “There is only one language that Russia understands, and that is a strong army.” made his assessment.

In this context, Wijnen stated that it is essential to eliminate the personnel shortage in the Ministry of Defense.
Wijnen, who will hand over his duty on January 1, has been the Commander of the Dutch Land Forces since 2021.
