A Dutch cocaine smugglers, one of Europe’s most wanted criminals, has been shot dead in Mexico, reports AFP. He is previously known for fake his own death.

The 32-year-old Dutch was shot dead on Thursday in Atizapán de Zaragoza, about 25 kilometers from the capital Mexico City. His identity has been confirmed, says an anonymous source at the State Prosecutor’s Office to AFP.

Europol lists him as one of Europe’s “most sought -after escapes”, he is suspected to have smuggled large amounts of cocaine between Brazil and the Netherlands. He was sentenced in October 2020 to over seven years in prison, says Europol on his site.

The 32-year-old will also have fake his own death in October last year in the Mexican cartel bracket Culiacán, in the midst of a burning war between two fractions of the Sinaloa cartel.

According to local media, he was accused of connections to one of the fractions, but no evidence of his death was found at that time except for a statement from an alleged girlfriend who claimed to have recognized the body.
