Dutch Minister of Defense Ruben Brekelmans tells about an incident in the Baltic Sea. According to it, two Dutch F-35 fighters took off from Estonia yesterday to escort out two Russian Su-27 planes and two Russian Backfire bombers.

According to the Reuters news agency, the Netherlands worked together with Finland and Sweden. The Russian planes were carrying hypersonic missiles, Brekelmans said in X on Wednesday.

– Our F-35 planes show daily vigilance against Russian threats. Yesterday, together with Finland and Sweden, we chased away Russian planes equipped with hypersonic missiles over the Baltic Sea, Brekelmans wrote in X.

No further details were given about the collision or the intentions of the planes. Dutch F-35 fighters have been patrolling NATO’s eastern border since December.

Two Swedish JAS 39 Gripen fighters continued the mission east of Gotland after the F-35s.
