During a WhatsApp conversation, you can perfectly show what is displayed on your phone to a correspondent using the screen sharing function. Simple and practical handling.
It’s not always easy to describe in words what you see on your smartphone screen. A situation that can arise, for example, when you encounter a problem on your mobile and you seek advice from a loved one who is not nearby in order to find the right solution and get out of trouble. Before bringing out the heavy artillery with Team Viewer for example to allow remote control of your device, it is already possible to simply show what is happening on your screen. And for this, the WhatsApp messaging app has a brand new function. It now allows you, during a video conversation, to share with your correspondent what is displayed on the screen. He will then be able to see what is causing you a problem and guide you towards the right solution. A practical function that can also be implemented to simply show content such as photos or videos without the need to send them.
The screen sharing function is one-way. If your correspondent in turn wishes to show you what is displayed on his or her own mobile, the current screen sharing must first be interrupted. Furthermore, this function is currently only accessible from a smartphone (Android or iOS). It cannot be activated from the macOS or Windows versions of the WhatsApp app or the service’s WebApp. On the other hand, nothing prevents you from seeing a shared screen from a smartphone on a PC or Mac.
How to use screen sharing in WhatsApp?
The screen sharing function must be established during a video conversation. It is based on the same principle as tools such as Google Meet or Microsoft Teams.
► To initiate screen sharing from WhatsApp, select your contact, then start a video call by pressing the camera icon at the top of the screen. Once the conversation has started, tap at the bottom of the screen onicon symbolizing a smartphone flanked by an arrow.
► An alert window is displayed. It stipulates that information transmitted during screen sharing remains encrypted. Press on Continue.
► WhatsApp will need authorization to broadcast what appears on your screen. Press on To start.
► Screen sharing starts immediately. All you have to do is switch to the app you want to display in the foreground. For their part, your interlocutor sees all the manipulations you carry out.
► When you’re done, return to the WhatsApp app and simply tap the button Stop sharing.
► Throughout the session, the WhatsApp app must remain active, even in the background. Otherwise, communication is cut off.
